The Chongqing Nankai Liangjiang Middle School started hoisting giant steel beams to create the structural framework of its office buildings on Feb 9, marking Chongqing's first try inforay in all steel structure buildings.
More than 7,000 steel members and about 5,000 tons of steel are projected to be used in the school's construction. And the government-funded school is expected to be put into operation in this September.
Authorities said that the project will cover an area of 220 mu (14.67 hectares) with a total floor spaceage of 109,000 square meters. The school will be able tocan hold about 4,000 teachers and students after it is completed.
The buildings apply various steel structural members during the construction, including tubular pillars, box columns, and steel stairs. These steel members can be installed much quicker than traditional construction materials.
Compared with steel-concrete structure buildings, the all steel structure buildings enjoy manyore advantages, including better earthquake resistance, higher flexibility, and are environmentally friendly.
